• Can I enter with a digital camera?
Yes. Fotothon is a fully digital event - see next question. The competition is still a test of your creative ideas as much as your photographic skills, digital cameras open up new possibilities for your creative expression. We¹ll be posting more information about the detail format of the event later, so keep checking back for the latest updates.

• Can I still use my film camera?
Film, what's film? It's not the 'F' word! By all means use film, if you can find it, get it processed, scanned, post-produced, manipulated and uploaded all before the deadline. Please do not try posting prints to us.

There's an excellent photo lab in Seaford Fotobox, 22 Broad Street, Seaford 01323 873737 who process, digitise and print colour negative C41 film to a very high standard.

• Why aren't all the topics released in one batch at the beginning of the day?
The aim of the Fotothon is to keep you thinking throughout the day, and releasing the topics in batches is therefore part of the Fotothon challenge. Fotothon is also a social occasion, and the topic release times are an opportunity for everyone to get back together and discuss their progress to date. Don¹t worry, if you¹ve got a great idea you can also keep it to yourself!

Memory cards
You will need to bring your own memory cards. Make sure that you have more memory cards than you need. In our experience it's best not to delete images during the day, as you may delete a winner!

Along with memory cards don't forget a spare battery or batteries. If using mobile phone or tablet a power bank is useful as phones have a tendency to go flat at he most inconvenient times.

• What format should the images be in?
All images will need to be supplied as JPEG files. You can shoot whatever file format you wish on the day, but images may only be submitted for the Fotothon competition as JPEG files, no smaller than 1800 pixels on the long dimension, 72 dpi, sRGB colour space.

• Will the topics be released online?
No. While we are embracing digital technology for the taking of images, we still like to see you on the day, so topics will still need to be collected in person at the specified times.

I'm a member of PhoCol the Newhaven Photographers Collect but can't be present on the day
For PhoCol members who live away from the vicinity of Newhaven we will supply the clues by email or other means if they wish to participate by photographing in their local area.

All we ask is you register via the Eventbrite link for you free ticket.
• Who owns the copyright in the images taken?
The copyright in the images taken remains with the photographer. In entering the competition the entrant grants Fotothon the right to use the images in all media to promote Fotothon. Fotothon cannot (and will not) pass on or sell any images to any third party.

• Is there a special event for children?
No. However, children are welcome to enter the main event and a prize will be awarded for the best set of photos for entrants aged 18 and under.

• Will children's work be judged separately?
No, children's work will be judged as part of the main event. However, all work by entrants under the age of 16 will be identified as the work of a junior entrant.
